Use these sites for information on finding and advice on selecting pet sitters.

I recommend getting at least 3 references on the person coming to your house and calling
your local veterinarians for feedback on sitter. I look ideally for someone with professional
training in animal care. Veterinary Technicians can make great sitters because of their keen
eye for the first sign of health problems.

Sit down and discuss your beliefs in detail regarding the care of your animals.  Make sure to
leave clear detailed instructions and go over them with the sitter. Include what your
practices are with your animals. I leave clear notes on what is allowed and what is never
acceptable, such as, we never yell, use leash corrections or other physical corrections, my
equipment is the only equipment to be used with my dog. I go over my dog's routine and
what games we play.  I discuss our beliefs and safety practices, like at doors with cats, and
our beliefs and wishes about medical care. Leave contact information so you can be
reached for questions and when judgements need to be made about care.

Ask your sitter to leave a brief note describing visit and stating time of visit.
