“I had worked with physically abused critters, but never psychologically deprived and neglected
dogs and didn't really know what I was getting in to. There are VERY FEW resources for help with
these dogs (but no shortage of people who THINK they know what they're talking about). You were
one of maybe 2 people total who offered real help in understanding what was really needed and i
will always appreciate it. There are lots of people who consider themselves "experts" in this field,
but far fewer than those who claim that skill.” MB Frederick, MD

"I just wanted to let you know that I finally took Lily for a weekend visit to my boyfriend's house in
VA.  I was planning to go but my dog walker wasn't going to be around, so I figured it was worth a
try knowing I may have to come home early given on how Lily did.  She sat next to me in her
booster seat in the car and she gets a little treat every time we stop at a red light.  We got to my
boyfriend's house and it's sad seeing her at first bump into the kitchen cabinets and furniture given
her sight isn't good at all but the good news is that once she got acclimated to the house, she did
so amazing.  I took her out every couple of hours so she knew where to go to the bathroom.  She
had no accidents nor did she fear poop!  We stayed in Saturday night and after dinner, she just
relaxed on her blanket.  She slept under the bed the whole night and snored.  Sunday we left her to
go out for breakfast and when i came home, she was napping on her blanket again.  She figured
out where the kitchen was and where her treats were.  Lily and I got home about 5 pm last night.
Rob can't believe how far she has come.  He said that he was a little surprised that I took her to
classes but now he can see how much they have helped her self-confidence and trust in me and
people around her.  She's such an amazing little girl.  I'm so thrilled how far she has come with
your help and attending the classes has clearly been a major help. I'll be signing up for the next
fearful dog class or basic class." VS (Silver Spring) Note: This dog  originally was terrified of
strangers, EVERYTHING OUTSIDE including grass & car rides. She has really come so far with
the careful care of this wonderful client.

"I liked everything about the class (Fearful Dog Class)…especially that you did not use the
traditional methods of “drilling” like sit, stay etc! I appreciate the fact that you focused on the
behaviors and you are flexible in trying different types of motivation. The thing I liked most about the
class is that you recognize the unique needs of these dogs. You gave Moshe and me individual
attention and you were very encouraging. I appreciated the help from your assistants which
exposed him to other people as well. (One of my major goals for him)  Thanks for the binder; lots
of helpful information too. I would like to find some activities he might enjoy; is it possible to get
him to enjoy playing with toys? By the way; I took your advice this morning and while getting ready
for work, I didn’t put him on the bed (? resource guarding), but walked him over to his crate where
he stayed with the door open and he was a perfect gentleman! No barking at my husband and so I
hope I can keep this up. Thanks for all your compassionate help." MP (Bethesda)

"First I want to let you know that I took Gino to the vet this week and followed ALL of your
recommendations and it went very well.  He made it through a thorough examination including
teeth and blood test with out a single growl.  Amazing!  I received your notebook and have read
every word.  I learned so much.  I was looking at the other dogs in the waiting room and
recognizing fearful body language that I never would have noticed before.  Great information, thank
you." VK Lovettsville, VA

"Jeni Grant has been our animal angel trainer and does great work with special needs dogs like
ours." DZ Puppymill Rescue Dog Meet Up Group

"Jeni is a wonderful instructor and very creative. Thank you" KS & PS, proud parents of a little 7-
pound Maltese boy (Elkridge)

"On behalf of Duffy and myself, I want to sincerely thank you for a fabulous training experience
during our Basic Manners course.  We learned so much and had a great time learning it!  Most
importantly, I think that Duffy is a much better behaved dog than he was before we began.  Your
training and instructional approach is so much easier to understand and follow than our previous
experiences where we were not comfortable with the emphasis on us being the "alphas" and
establishing a dominant role over Duffy.  You've done such a great job of offering instructive
techniques that value the dog's intelligence, curiosity and character.  Your advice and book
recommendations has been incredibly helpful.  I really feel like I can successfully continue with
Duffy's training and development here at home.  I hope that you will offer a Basic Manners II class
and I would definitely sign up for it in a heartbeart! MO (Maryland)

"1)Your modeling appropriate behavior and responses for us, such as the quiet, "Sit", and your
obviously not being concerned by Remy's and Siena's horseplay (which freaked us out prior to your
first visit). 2) Your long-term view and personal experiences with fearful dogs. Using your
techniques have definitely helped both our dogs feel more secure with us. And, as you suggested
might occur, we're seeing only recently that Siena has some issues that didn't manifest initially.
The perspective on dogs who'd had a bad life and then been routed around different shelter/foster
situations was really important..... " J& G (Silver Spring)

during the training sessions? your ability to help me fine tune the training exercises and ability for
me to ask questions as we were practicing.  You can read about what to do, but having you present
to direct helped me understand and I retained the information better than if I just read directions.
The write ups are helpful to go back to and remember.  The manual/videos are very helpful.  JN

“Jeni has been an enormous help to me and my dog, Grady.  Grady is a timid little guy who grew
up in a shelter for the first six months of his life.  He received very little socialization and is
subsequently very fearful of people and, really, any thing that is new to him.  Jeni has been
incredibly generous with her time and expertise.  She's given me great information and highly
useful strategies for helping Grady cope and move toward a less fearful life.  Her professional
knowledge and personal support have been invaluable.  Grady and I can't thank her enough.” KS

"Jeni Grant has been a godsend to me and my 6 month old reactive puppy.  When my puppy
barked obsessively at the other puppies in kindergarten, she had to be to be removed from the
class.  Jeni began meeting with me in private to teach me how to reprogram my puppy's brain to
enjoy rather than fear new people and dogs.  She was very good at explaining the emotional and
physiological reasons behind my puppy's behavior and why her positive approach would work to
make my puppy much more comfortable in the world... and most importantly, it has worked!" JT

" Jeni Grant has given us the skill set and confidence to train our puppy SiSi beyond what we
thought possible. Her lessons are fun and have been a priceless investment building a
relationship and understanding with our dog. Most importantly SiSi loves her too!" CG (Harper's
Ferry) Note: SiSi passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test! Yeah!

"We wanted to thank you for your wonderful work with Rocco. In the short time that you have been
working with him, we have seen a distinct change in his behavior. Given that we were on verge of
giving up, we want to thank you for all that you have done." TF (Poolesville)

Jeni is an amazing dog trainer.  We have a 3 year old Rottweiler that was not socialized enough.
The first time Jeni met with our dog she worked wonders with him.  She was very loving, patient,
hands on training with us and our dog, and very knowledgeable about his needs.  I have seen
tremendous improvement with our rotti.  He is calm and confident during social events and I thank
Jeni for all that!.  Thank you Jeni for all your expertise in training our dog. Rottweiler Lovers from

"Creative suggestions about how to make training time fun. Also, your assessment of a complex
dog, pointing out traits that other trainers didn't see - which helped to add activities which
increased bonding between my dog and I." RM (Old Lyme)

"Everything I really needed to know I learned from Jeni Grant's puppy kindergarten" Poseidon (Lab)

"Contacting Jeni was the best thing we could have done. Our Ridgeback, Sky, was approaching
here adolescent age and was beginning to become a bit rebellious. Jeni is knowledgeable,
caring, compassionate, and helped us work through, and improve our relationship with soon to be
grown up puppy." MB (Uncasville, CT)

"You provide a much needed service, and you provide it in a professional, compassionate (to the
people and pet customer) manner.  Thank you." MB (East Lyme)

"Very in tune with the dogs." CP (New London)

"Great method reward/praise instead of correction...peronalized attention to our dogs needs." JB
(Haddam)

" Her love of animals is obvious and our dogs love her back equally. She is responsible and
reliable; we feel blessed she is in our area." AB (East Haddam)

"Jeni is an absolutely reliable, knowledgeable animal professional whose warm manner wins
over both people and pets. "--Amanda Sumner, dog training instructor, has worked  with St.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to tell you a little about my association with Jennifer Grant. A recommendation for Ms.
Grant would have to involve the longest list of positive and professional qualities of anyone I have
known and worked with. However, in the interest of brevity, I'll simply tell you the basics. I've known
Jeni for approximately 10 years. She was the manager of the animal shelter where I was also
employed, and there I saw her display the most responsible, caring and comprehensive animal
care of anyone I have known who works with animals. While there, she improved every facet of the
way the animals were cared and provided for, and when she moved away the president of the
SPCA tried for years to persuade her to move back to the area to manage the well-known, quality
shelter. I even remember thinking that if there was anyone I would feel comfortable leaving my own
pets in the hands of, were I not to be able to take care of them myself, it would be Jeni. She is also
the one pet owner I've known who I noticed devoted an unusually large portion of her income to the
care and feeding of her pets, which to me really shows what a priority animals, and their proper
care, are to her. I was always very impressed with that. Apart from that, I also will mention that Jeni
is one of the most inherently trustworthy and ethical people I've ever known. She is a woman of her
word, and takes great care to do anything she takes to task with the utmost diligence. She is
eminently conscientious, and truly hardworking. I've never seen her give anything less than her
best to anything she does. And with regard to her own pets, I've seen them to be without question,
a part of her own family and some of the most lucky and loved companion animals that one could
have. Although this letter has not been as brief as I've promised, I hope it gives the reader some
idea of the truly valuable and unique (nowadays) qualities that Ms. Grant displays in everything she
undertakes. I'm proud to know her. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

    Regards,

"I have been working with Jeni Grant,
CPDT-KA., as an apprentice for about
1 ½ yrs.   I am so impressed with the
wealth of knowledge she has about
dogs and their behaviors, and how she
is always working to increase that
knowledge.  As my mentor, she has
shared her knowledge and training
expertise with me and given me
invaluable opportunities to work with
her and her clients so I could benefit
from firsthand experiences.  Putting
the needs of the dog first, her
kindness and compassion as a positive
trainer is always evident.  She has
always been encouraging and helped
me launch my own training business.
She’s a credit to our profession and I
look forward to our continued
relationship."
